By

Have Wall Socket, Will Charge

So you have a device that can charge using a standard USB connection. Well, a USB wall charger is the thing for you. This plugs into any wall socket to provide power to charge your laptop, mobile phone, digital camera or any device that charges via USB.

You see, we tend to use our computers or laptops where we use one USB slot to power up our other portable devices. But, if you don’t have enough USB sockets (all available sockets are used by your keyboard, mouse, printer, etc.) or don’t have access to a computer, the USB wall charger is a good option. It comes with a plug (which you can insert into a socket) and a USB slot, where you can insert the connector that will charge your device.

What’s good about the USB wall charger is that when you’re traveling, you don’t have to bring all the charging bricks for each and every device – just the wall charger (and any other related cables) will do.

And, some USB wall chargers have more than 1 USB slot (there are chargers that have as much as four slots!), so you can charge more devices at the same time.

What to Look for in a USB Wall Charger

Here are some things you should look for when you want to get a USB wall charger:

-          Portability. There are units that have prongs that fold so that it’s easier to store and you don’t run the danger of scratching any device that you store with it. Size also matters, not just for storing and packing. A particularly large and cumbersome charger has the tendency to fall off of outlets, especially if these outlets are loose.

-          Compatibility. By this we mean the compatibility of the pins with the sockets or plugs in the countries you will be visiting. US, EU, UK and Australian plugs have different styles and if you plan on visiting these, it is a good idea to get a wall charger that can accommodate different styles of plugs. There are wall chargers that allow you to flip around and switch the pins in order for you to use it for a particular plug. A good unit should also have world voltage acceptance.

-          Safety. Get a wall charger that has passed CE safety standards to ensure that using it is safe, particularly for units that allow you to plug multiple devices. A good unit should provide protection against overheating, overloading and short circuiting.

It is important to remember that your portable devices are meant to make your life convenient, not complicate it further. A USB wall charger will be helpful in decluttering your charging requirements.
